Digital Transition: African American Senior Women Learn on the Internet

by DeeNice on February 24, 2010

This evening a group of African American women of ages ranging from 35 – 85 gathered to be engage, excited and empowered to the work of technology by DeeNice Rhodes, the Digital Dynamo.

There was a lot of excitement in the room as each one shared their questions, concerns and stories regarding how technology helped or hurt they daily lives.

These ladies were recent graduates of a local program in Washington DC called Prime Time Sister Circles. An organization that supports black women to increase exercise, improve stress management, and eliminate addictions .

To support our journey, DeeNice carefully walked the group through how to sign up on a community website. www.Sparkspeople.com was the chosen site because of its strong emphasis on health and positive lifestyles. We had 2 laptops, one net book  one  PC and 17 ladies. DeeNice started off the event with a well known YouTube clip called Pinky the Cat to loosen up the group.

The goal today, DeeNice states is to empower you and not intimidate you to embrace all that is good about going on the Internet.
